Between the 8th and 11th centuries vikings terrorised the inhabitants of coast in towns and villages throughout Europe. But what dropped them to make war? One of the main reasons was the shortage of farmland in Scandinavia which often led to food crisis.In search of a better life young vikings crossed the sea and plundered the nearby crospirons and lands

In 793 Vikings carried out their first rates on Britain. The earliest rates were for plunder only. In 835 they came not to plunder but to conquer and settle. The vikings' raids were succesful because England didn't have regular army or fleet to meet them
